A Look Back on ISA 2013
The International Sign Association show is one of the main venues in North America where manufacturers, representatives and customer can come together to see what’s new in print, materials and sign-making supplies. This year did not disappoint with brilliant cyan, magenta and orange aisle carpet and a completely sold out show floor which presented the latest and greatest in the signage industry.
For those of you who couldn’t make it to Las Vegas for ISA this year, here’s a look at some of the exciting products that our suppliers were showcasing in their booths. Whether they were showing new technological advancements or an improvement on an existing product line, they pulled out all the stops to show off how they’re working to make the sign industry a little bit better.
ConVerd LLC was showcasing a thinner 1.8mm ConVerd Board that can be used as an indoor styrene replacement and a thicker 10mm ConVerd Board which can be used to build structural displays. These additions expand their already successful environmentally friendly display board line and enable shops to create ever-more innovative displays using cost effective and environmentally friendly products.
Bitro Group was showing a wide range of their existing LED products including their newest coloured RGB version of the Lattice Carpet Lighting System and a wider range of the new tiny Tracer LED light strips that can go into any small channel letter or light box. These products are great additions to their existing line of LED lattice, and LED modules.
Avery Dennison introduced an exciting new blue and gold chrome wrap film that will be available this year. They also highlighted a racing green metallic wrap film, combined with carbon fiber black wrap film to create a custom-look on a Ford Escape. Taking wraps to a different vehicle altogether, Avery had an RV wrap which doubled as a clever on-site storage room!
Over at 3M’s booth, they were showing off their recent Envision 480cv3 and their new 3730-50 translucent backlit films that allow 30% more light output while using less LED or fluorescent bulbs. You can really see the difference in a side-by-side comparison with IJ3630-20.
France will be launching a new LED-Fast-Pack Ballast box which is a great all-in-one solution for wet-location LED light installs. They come complete with box, LED power supply and on/off switch. These new Fast-Packs will be launched along-side the current T8 and T12 ballast lines.
Seiko was showcasing their full line of roll-to-roll solvent printers including the Seiko ColorPainter H2, as well as the ColorPainter W and ColorPainter H2P with its new bulk ink system. There was great interest in the images that were being printed on FiberMark Flexart 280, pressure sensitive vinyl and scrim banner due to the incredible colour gamut.
FiberMark also attracted some interest as they showcased the entire line of flexible FiberMark medias along with the new Eclipse 13mil blockout paper and Duoboard rigid paperboard. The duoboard line contains 24, 50pt and a special super 30pt board which can be used for gift cards, phone cards and hotel card keys, while being recyclable after use; a definite environmental improvement over the standard styrene that is normally used in these applications. Also on display was the Endura 250 in a retractable banner stand, proving that this material is very versatile and can be used in many end applications where regular paper stock has not been used before.
