Ten Days of Augmented Reality: Day 6 – Engaging Museum Exhibits
Day 6 – Experience What it Would be like to Walk Among the Dinosaurs with AR Museum Exhibits
Boring visits to dusty old museums are a thing of the past with the addition of a little Augmented Reality! This year the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) paired up with integrated production studio Meld Media to apply this technology to their newest featured exhibit “Ultimate Dinosaurs: Giants from Gondwana,” essentially bringing dinosaurs to life! Not only has the museum used Augmented Reality to make their transit shelter ads stand out, they’ve also used it to add a new dimension to the exhibit itself! Instead of simply looking at skeletons and pictures, visitors can use their Ipads or smartphones to see full sized 3D renderings of what the dinosaurs actually would have looked like and can access additional information by clicking on-screen hotspots. The ROM also placed iPads throughout the exhibit to ensure that every visitor could take part in the AR experience.
Outstanding Graphics for an Astounding Exhibit
The ROM really illustrated how many ways Augmented Reality can be applied to create an exciting and interactive experience that captures attention. Try using 3M’s IJ162-10 for AR floorgraphics that need to last in high-traffic areas like museums. Also try printing promotional posters on PolyBrite 10, and bus shelter ads on the environmentally friendly Converd Greenlight Plus!
