At this year’s Consac-Imagemakers 2012 everyone was floored by demonstrations of Augmented Reality, using a free app and images by String Augmented Reality! In this multi-part series we’ll look at what it is, how people are using it and why you should know about it!

First, here are the basics:

Augmented reality game

What is it?

Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology and media that blends physical (printed) graphics and virtual ones creating a multi-dimensional, sensory and interactive experience. It allows customers to interact with printed graphics and advertisements using their smartphones! Dinosaurs can spring to life from floorgraphics in a museum exhibit! Imagine an ad in a bus shelter that allows you to change the colour of a blouse with your phone! The possibilities are endlesss!

How does it work?

Using a special app, your web camera or smartphone camera recognizes particular triggers in a graphic and launches additional 3D, interactive and/or informational content. The app and content are created by developers using animation and game development software.
